  • Visited this Ntuc dental clinic at bedok interchange (facing bus interchange) last year to have filling done on 3 tooths, the lady dental doctor(quite pretty) did the worst tooth filling i have ever encounter in my whole life (i am 45 last year).

I suffer pain in these 3 tooths even after the filling job, and one of it have a gap and food will get stuck at the gap and decay there resulting me having stomach pain most of the time.

And the cost is expensive too at 180+ for filling on 3 tooths.
Plus her attitude is pretty bad too.

Any recomendation of good clinic with good filling job.?

  • If you have a broken tooth or tooth fracture, contact the emergency dentist as soon as possible. If the tooth is knocked out, place it in a glass of milk, call our office, and there is a good chance some dentist can re-implant it. Try not to touch the root portion of the tooth, I had some prob similar either I contacted

  • I’m really at a lost on the procedures and cost of a root canal treatment. Due to a pain i just say yes in doing my root canal treatment as advise by the dentist that i visited.

The first dentist was a relief one and he explain to me the cost and prcedures involve. He quoted about $150 plus for the 1st root canal treatment and then advise me to go the subsequent one to complete the process. My bet i just register in my mind it would be just $150 plus plus only for the root canal treatment. Further to that he did mention on the crowning process which he say it would be best to do but the decision is still up to me.

I paid $200 plus for my first treatment. To complete the process i came for the 2nd visit. It was a shocked when the dental assistant requested me to pay another $400 plus nearly to $500 for the 2nd and 3rd treatment. I was asking myself what did i miss earlier on? did i hear wrongly? or i wasn’t paying attention to the first relief dentist as i was in pain and just want to get rid if it??? For my dear sake ..i just sallow in pain the cost for not taking good care of my teeth..

Here come the shocking part, as the 2nd and 3rd treatment was done by the resident dentist he keep constantly ask me to do crowing after the root canal treatment. Seems like pushing rather than advise to me? Cost of crowning was not even mention! Yes he did advise it is better as to protect my teeth and the treatment.

But after my 2nd treatment, my filling came off by itself!! Oh dear should i trust this dentist? Paying so much and yet i am not satisfied with this quality given.. Well he did fill back for me after i visit him the very next day.

On the 3rd treatment which is just a couple of weeks back, the dentist told me he will complete the root canal treatment. And again he persuade me to do crowning and again i told him i will consider. Again never mention the cost. After the final treatment session i went out of the room, the counter assistance then ask me if i wanted to do a permenant root canal treatment then the crowing.

To my astonishment, my final treatment is not the permanent root canal treatment?????

Ok now i need some Professional advise.
    1) After paying for nearing $800 plus, what i get is just a TEMPORARY root canal treatment?

    2) I was then being advise to do a PERMENANT root canal treatment it would cost me another $50 to %90.

    3) I’m having an impression that patient visiting that dentist is at the dentist mercy as the charges are not being advise properly. Can you imagine if a person cant really afford crowning and just say yes to it? How is the patient going to pay for the costly crowning? Can we take out the crowning and ask the dentist to take it back? (ok this part is meant to be a joke)

    4) Last but not least, my filling is cracking up..i need a recommendation of other dentist. But now i have alot of doubts..is my root canal treatment completed? will other dentist take advantage of my situation and charge me higher as i never begin the treatment with them.

My apologies for the being long winded, but i sincerely hope that i can get some professional advise and not to incurred any further damage to my savings..

    thank you in advance

  • hi bebe,

well i guess we are all at the dentist mercy.

When in pain,we see dentist with mouth wide open.

After treatment, mouth still wide open when see the bill.

The best part you teeth still not in good condition and i assume the dentist will always expect you to come back to them for treatment.

They remind me of car mechanics, when you send your car for repair you will still need to come back again and again. First visit, change cable, after that, change belt, after that it goes on and on if you know what i mean.

Haiz… i should change my profession and become a dentist too. Or maybe i should start a dental business. hmm…

Hey but to be fair..not all dentist are the same. I just need to find that group of dentist that can actually help.

on the other note i assume you have visited the NUH dentist. so how does it goes? feeling better?

last n finali, he said, DUN WASTE MY TIME I STILL HAVE A D’N'D TO ATTEND! n things abt im e last patient n asking me to save enuf money b4 i come e next time or find another dentist. oh yes 1 more thing, even when i said can he pls jus do dat 1 front tooth 1st? he said e 300 i had on me wasn’t enuf for even 1 tooth treatment!

honestly i’ve never ever felt dat humiliated by this kind of awful treatment! aren’t docs supposed to help? thank god he’s not a doc i wonder how many ppl would’ve died if they hadn’t brought enuf $$$ for treatment(a treatment which he didnt even reali explain thoroughly) n throughout e whole 15mins i was there he shifted e seat up n dwn 3-4 times hinting dat i shld jus leave??

b4 i left, i asked since he didnt bither to help me in any way at all, shld i still pay? guess wat of cuz this MONEY-GRUBBER HE SAID of cuz waste so much time muz pay consultation fees of $17. fine i didnt mind.

but believe i will NEVER EVR GO BACK THERE AGAIN!! N I TOLD MY COLLEAGUES N MOST OF MY FRDS ABT DIS INCIDENT TOO!! THIS IS MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. MAYBE HE LOOKED DWN ON ME CUZ I WAS JUS JOBLESS HOUSEWIFE AT THAT TIME. BUT HE’S A DISGRACE TO ALL FELLOW DENTISTS!

N THANK GOD.. I’VE FOUND A REALI GD DENTIST NOW N HELPED ME N ALLOWED ME TO PAY INSTALLMENTS FOR my root canal n crowning.

VERI SORRY TU ALL DENTISTS FROM NTUC DENTICARE, BUT THERE’S ALWAYS A BLACK SHEEP IN EVRY COMMUNITY, BUT FROM THIS SITE… HMMM TOO BAD GUESS THERE MIGHT BE MORE…

  • The problem with starting threads like this one is that complaints from patients are difficult to analyse because of the lack of diagnostic notes and the all important psychological profile.

What was actually being indicated? What was actually being done. The patient may not be fully aware, may have misunderstood or in most cases, may have forgotten what they have been told. Furethermore, what was the patient’s attitude like? What kind of expectations did they have to deserve a quote of $600 per tooth? If we’re talking about crowns, then that’s not unreasonable at all.

In the heartlands where price sensitivity is highest, root canal treatment is probably the most common necessary treatment that is rejected because of cost factors. For someone with no income, paying $300-$1000 for root canal can be difficult. It’s OK if the patient is willing to extract the tooth. Problems arise when the patient insists on keeping the tooth but is only willing to pay for a filling, thinking that root canal is only indicated as an excuse for the dentist to charge more.

This puts everyone in a no-win situation. Many heartland dentists reluctantly fill up teeth which should be endodontically treated first. When there is no pain, the patient assures the dentist that he is OK with a temporary filling and will do something about it later. When the patient gets pain afterwards, they forget all about the filling being temporary and they having been advised to do root canal previously.

  • If starting a thread like this causes problem, i would proposed the administrator close this thread. Problem solve and everyone is happy about not reading and even waste time sharing what they experience.

And if one would remember or know their own diagnostic notes and the all important psychological profile, i would love to go back in time and study medicine and become a dentist myself.

“Complains or frustration about dentists? We’d like to hear.” Are you sure???

  • i went to ntuc denticare cck before, and the dentist was this indian guy who was so rough and rude. got him to scale and polish my teeth and the procedure took like 3 mins?? you can imagine how he assaulted my teeth.

  • frankly, people can write what they want here without according the dental surgeons the right of response. Like Chan Joon Yee mentioned, even if the dental surgeon has exercised due diligence in obtaining informed consent from the patient, it’s too easy for the latter to turn around and allege that proper or sufficient info wasn’t accorded to him/her. At the end of the day, put your neck where your mouth is - sign a statutory declaration and be legally accountable and responsible for any comments/statements that are made. That’ll be the fairest.

  • Good one, khalid

  • Went to thedentist@orchard to fix my one front teeth that was protruding out.
Dentist overcharged me. I intended to do a procelain veener, then he say cannot for my teeth, have to do a crown.
But he still charge the price for a porcelain veener. crown is cheaper at 600.
Then, because I do only one teeth, he at first say it is 850, now it is 1000. and never tell me before hand.

during the procedure, keep asking me to do all 6 front teeth, when i already say i rather do one teeth only.

sigh, should have done braces for my teeth.

  • Saw a few comments about NTUC denticare. I was referred to a specialist by the one at AMK Hub, without a referral letter. She told me that my molar tooth that experience pain when I eat cold things require root canal treatment and as she is not certain if the nerve if affected and made an appointment with Endodontic Clinic at Lucky plaza. During my first appointment, the Specialist informed that he can’t see any cracks from the x-rays but he’s sure there’s a crack and asked me if I wanted root canal treatment. Trusting his professionalism, I agreed. Only to find out later after my treatment when I spoke to the NTUC dentist that I am supposed to go there only for analysis and the specialist is supposed to analyse if the infection had infected the nerve of the molar and recommend if I can go back to NTUC for further analysis, root canal may not be required. With my root canal done, I wonder the professionalism of such dentists and their procedures- how can I be referred to a specialist without a referral letter? What kind of initial analysis was been done at the NTUC Dentalcare if all they do is make an appointment for the patient at the specialist with no referral letter and expect the patient to communicate with the specialist? Isn’t there someone who can ensure proper advise is given to us? Pls learn from my experience here and beware of such poor professional advise.
